4 Tips to Make Going Back-To-School Easier

There’s a lot to get ready for this back-to-school season. For parents of learners struggling with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, and similar learning differences, extra effort is needed each year to deal with increased reading assignments, more challenging math problems, new teachers, or even an entirely new school as the student moves up in grade level.

Here are some tips to help your learner become more comfortable and successful in school:
1. Feelings of anxiety about returning to school are a common occurrence. It is important to talk to your learner and allow them to express how they are feeling and release their anxiety. Reassure your child that success is within reach and that you are always there to help.
2. Inform the teacher about your learner’s situation so they can prepare resources to make the school experience more positive. It is helpful to discuss your learner’s accommodations on their IEP to ensure they get the proper support and assistance in the classroom.

3. Dyslexia tools are a fantastic way to make life easier for you and your child. One thing you can do is have your child’s textbooks in audio format. Audiobooks help students with Dyslexia by saving time in understanding their schoolwork, leading to better grades and improved vocabulary.

4. Get additional help for your child. If your child struggles academically because of Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, or similar learning challenges, it’s beneficial to start working on solutions for your child early in the school year.
